Fear is an insidious thing. Yes, we need to take precautions during this time of crisis, but we also need to remember that we are living in the greatest industrial nation in the world today. I believe that we need to take a cue from our grandmothers and grandfathers who fought in WWI and WWII, and take to heart this quote from Winston Churchill:The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Looking Forward To 2019

Hi Everyone. Welcome back to the new year. I think 2019 is going to be a great year for us.

To start with, we acquired a new place to show our art: the lovely Armenian Home in the Vineyards. We now have a place for our artists to have a one or two man-show each month, and also a place to hold our Fall Show. (We had a great turnout there and two artists sold art even before we finished hanging the show!)

Are you ready to paint small this summer? Our miniature works show has gone back to its roots this summer. For the first time in many years, we will be back in the display cases at the Clovis Library. Since the Library doesn't have space for receiving, we will receive and Judge at the Veteran's Memorial District, and then set up the display that afternoon at the Library.

The year has hardly begun and I'm very excited about the opportunities we have available to us. We have the Old West Show back in the Veteran's Room, thanks to Alice's wonderful negotiation skills, (Thank you Alice!). WE DID IT!

Despite some major issues, the Old West Show was received, judged and hung. It looked wonderful. The show location in the lobby of the Veteran's Building certainly drew plenty of positive attention and walk though traffic.

Unfortunately there were communication issues with the administration and next year's show will remain in the location only if those communication issues can be worked out.

Welcome to 2017

I hope all of you are ready to hit the ground running in 2017. Change is always difficult, but often when a door closes, another opens. A few updates: Our Board Meetings are now the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Dennys on Willow and Shaw in Clovis. We reserved the meeting room for 4:30—7:30 PM, and yes we do usually eat dinner during the meeting although it isn’t mandatory to do so.

Changes for the Year

As you know, there will be some changes to our schedule this year in response to the Veteran District’s new rules. Our board meetings are going to be moved to the 1st Wednesday of the month, beginning in September 7th. We will also be changing the location of the board meetings to the Dennys on Shaw and Willow avenues. (710 W Shaw, Clovis, CA 93612). Taking Stock

Wow! The year is more than half over for the Guild. We only have three more meetings left. I feel that this has been a productive year for us. On the minus side, several of our members have had to retire to assisted living homes and now have difficulty getting rides to our meetings. We had a fabulous Old West Show this year! Thank you’s go out to all of our members (and members husbands!) who stepped in to help. We had over 34 Old West entries! And a show Total of 84, which is a big improvement over the last show. 2012 in review: it was a pretty good year all told; although we were very sad to lose Dottie Arave who had been a mainstay of the club for many years. Dottie was a talented artist who always made the time and effort to support the Guild. For many years she handled Pick of the Month (our informal monthly art contest) and did a wonderful job.
