It's A New Year! Hey, What Happened To February?

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Sunday, March 1, 2020, In : President's message

Welcome to March. I hope everyone has been busy working on an entry for the Old West Show. It's coming up faster than you think!

Please sign up to help out with the show. We need members to take sign ins to each category, runners during receiving, and healthy ablebodied folk to help set up the standards and then to hang the art. Sign up sheets will be available at the meeting.

We are also going to need some of you to simply sit the show while it is open.

If you know a high-school student who wo...

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Friday, June 3, 2016, In : President's message

Is it really June already? The miniature show is coming up faster than you think so I hope all of you have started your painting for this year. This year there have been quite a few changes. The Fresno Art Hub will be hosting the show this year. Many thanks to our gracious hostess Diane Breuer. The awards will be given out during Art Hop Thursday on July 7th so please come and support all our fine artists.  I look forward to seeing you there.

We made some changes to the categorie...

Let's Keep In Touch!

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Thursday, September 18, 2014, In : President's message

Wasn’t it wonderful to finally find out John was okay? This is a wakeup call to remind all of us how It is easy for us to lose track of members when we fall ill, especially if our family or close friends don’t know to let the Guild know about it. Please remember to put our Sunshine Chair Sandy Gunn on your list of friends to call so you family will know we worry about you! Sandy’s phone no is 916-4328.

With October coming up we all need to be thinking about officers for 2015. We badl...

Good Friends

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Thursday, July 24, 2014, In : President's message

Creating a “president’s Message” can be difficult; either I have so much to say that I can’t fit it all in, or I struggle with finding something relevant to say! July was a hard month for our members. At the time of this publication, John Roberts who has been a mainstay of the club for years is still recuperating in the hospital from ulcers, and Mary Lou Griggs, another long-time member was operated on for heart surgery and is still recovering. We also heard that Frank Sidoti who is...

The Old West Show Was Great!

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Thursday, May 8, 2014, In : President's message

We had a fabulous Old West Show this year! Thank you’s go out to all of our members (and members husbands!) who stepped in to help. We had over 34 Old West entries! And a show Total of 84, which is a big improvement over the last show. We had enough entries to fill all our categories except Sculpture/Mixed Media, which we had to combine with our next lowest entry category, drawing.  At shows, we do try to avoid combining categories if at all possible, but sometimes it is unavoidable. We a...

Lets Rodeo!

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Friday, March 28, 2014, In : President's message

The Old West Show is coming up fast and we are going to need a lot of assistance from our members.  This year will be the 100th year anniversary of the Rodeo and the Rodeo Association is going to begin sponsoring the prize for the 1st place winner of the Old West category once again.  Another piece of good news is this year we are on the calendar the Rodeo Assoc. sent to the Fresno Bee. Watch for announcements of our show also on the community calendars of TV stations KMPH (26) and COZY (7....

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, In : President's message

Although there will be no meeting in November, I hope you will all support the Fall art show by entering your art and coming out for the Reception on November 5. It will be in the Veteran’s room from 5 PM to 8 PM. Jeanne and Barbara will be contacting you to assist in receiving, judging and hanging the show. There will be signup sheets at the meeting for this, as well as bringing in food for the reception and for sitting the show. Please support the Guild by volunteering. We will also nee...

What a Great Opportunity!

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, In : President's message

What a wonderful opportunity for our members! Andrew Millar of Edward Jones Financial has just opened up an office in Clovis, and he is looking for artists to display their work in his office. He has room for a nice display of wall art and a few sculptures. Andrew will be at the Clovis Art Guild General Meeting on September 11, (7-9 PM @ the Clovis Veteran’s Memorial Building) to meet artists. Andrew will be arranging a reception each month (paid for by his office!), and would like a grou...

Anybody Get The Name Of That Window?

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Friday, July 26, 2013, In : President's message
Those of us who came to the window gallery exchange in July got kind of a jolt. When security opened up the back door I was told that the mall had managed to rent the store and the new owners wanted to take possession the next morning! Fortunately, we did not have a lot of art to remove, so while I called artists to make sure they would pick up their...

Come And Join Us

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Monday, July 1, 2013, In : President's message

Well, summer is upon us. We have some really excellent programs coming up this summer so I hope all of you will brave the heat and join us. This month Valerie Runningwolf will be explaining and demonstrating encaustic techniques. This is an opportunity for all of us to learn a little something about a different type of painting. It should be interesting and informative.

We have been fortunate that the Veteran’s building is allowing us to use the Veteran’s room for our meetings this yea...

Before We Leave The Subject...

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Thursday, May 30, 2013, In : President's message

Before we leave the subject of the Old West Show, I want to say a special thank you to Jim Sutton and to Susan Asadoor’s two pre-teen boys who dismantled and loaded the art display standards into our trailer for storage by themselves at the end of the show, although we had a number of people sign up to help with this aspect of the show, we didn...

Old West Show

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, In : President's message

We had a wonderful Old West show this year, and it was all due to the generosity and diligence of the members who volunteered. A show like this simply is not put on in a vacuum. Without the hard work by our members, it wouldn’t have happened. Jackie stepped in as show chair and everything was organized so that it ran smoothly. Glynmary, as always, did a great job organizing and serving the food for the reception. Alice had all the ribbons and prizes ready to be handed out, and she did a g...

Getting Ready for The Old West Show

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, In : President's message

Gene broke his hand this month, so we are going to need some strong, able-bodied members to assist with setting up the standards for the Old West show. If you can help out please let us know at meeting.

We will also need help with receiving and runners for judging (see Jackie McCoy), and Glynmary will need help in the kitchen. Don’t forget to si...

2012 in review...

Posted by Clovis Art Guild California on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, In : President's message

2012 in review: it was a pretty good year all told; although we were very sad to lose Dottie Arave who had been a mainstay of the club for many years. Dottie was a talented artist who always made the time and effort to support the Guild. For many years she handled Pick of the Month (our informal monthly art contest) and did a wonderful job.

Over Christmas we participated in the Clovis 100 year centennial first by sponsoring a Christmas tree to which we donated ornaments. Our theme was “an...
