President's Message

The Only Thing To Fear is Fear Itself

March 27, 2020

Fear is an insidious thing. Yes, we need to take precautions during this time of crisis, but we also need to remember that we are living in the greatest industrial nation in the world today. I believe that we need to take a cue from our grandmothers and grandfathers who fought in WWI and WWII, and take to heart this quote from Winston Churchill:The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Now don't take this as an excuse to ignore your safety or those of others. In accordance with the Emergency Guidelines, many of April's art events have been postponed or cancelled.

See Below:

From: Gail Daley, President, Clovis Art Guild

We regret to inform everyone, that due to the current crisis, the Veterans Memorial building has cancelled all events in April. This means that the April meeting, and the Old West Show have been cancelled. We hope to set up the Old West Show later in the year after America has gone back to normal.

From: Jim Monty (Specht) and the Sierra Artist Gallery

It is with deep regret that I have to make the following announcement.  With the announcement from the Governor of California, placing all non-essential members of the public to “Shelter in Place”, the Board Members have decided to close the Art Gallery until the order is lifted.  This will end the Mini show for 2020.  All entries will be returned and awards mailed as soon as the Shelter in Place order is lifted.

Please let Carol Sill or myself know if you have any questions.  Thank you.

It's A New Year! Hey, What Happened To February?

March 1, 2020

Welcome to March. I hope everyone has been busy working on an entry for the Old West Show. It's coming up faster than you think!

Please sign up to help out with the show. We need members to take sign ins to each category, runners during receiving, and healthy ablebodied folk to help set up the standards and then to hang the art. Sign up sheets will be available at the meeting.

We are also going to need some of you to simply sit the show while it is open.

If you know a high-school student who wo...

Looking Forward To 2019

February 7, 2019

Hi Everyone. Welcome back to the new year. I think 2019 is going to be a great year for us.

To start with, we acquired a new place to show our art: the lovely Armenian Home in the Vineyards. We now have a place for our artists to have a one or two man-show each month, and also a place to hold our Fall Show. (We had a great turnout there and two artists sold art even before we finished hanging the show!)

We have received an anonymous donation of $1,000. Thank you for thinking of us Anonymous.

THINK SMALL!

June 2, 2018

Are you ready to paint small this summer? Our miniature works show has gone back to its roots this summer. For the first time in many years, we will be back in the display cases at the Clovis Library. Since the Library doesn't have space for receiving, we will receive and Judge at the Veteran's Memorial District, and then set up the display that afternoon at the Library.

The miniature works show is an opportunity for artists who paint miniatures to show off their skills and for those of us wh...

THE OLD WEST SHOW IS COMING!

April 2, 2018

The year has hardly begun and I'm very excited about the opportunities we have available to us. We have the Old West Show back in the Veteran's Room, thanks to Alice's wonderful negotiation skills, (Thank you Alice!). We hope to have our Small Works Show in either the Clovis or the Sunnyside Library (Dave Boothby is still working on this) so no promises as yet. Sunnyside library is where we have a year-round exhibit, except for the month and a half when SWA borrows the space for their spring ...

WE DID IT!

May 9, 2017

Despite some major issues, the Old West Show was received, judged and hung. It looked wonderful. The show location in the lobby of the Veteran's Building certainly drew plenty of positive attention and walk though traffic.

Unfortunately there were communication issues with the administration and next year's show will remain in the location only if those communication issues can be worked out.

We could only have pulled off the show with the help our dedicated members so it ...

Welcome to 2017

January 5, 2017

I hope all of you are ready to hit the ground running in 2017. Change is always difficult, but often when a door closes, another opens. A few updates: Our Board Meetings are now the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Dennys on Willow and Shaw in Clovis. We reserved the meeting room for 4:30—7:30 PM, and yes we do usually eat dinner during the meeting although it isn’t mandatory to do so.

We are now officially a non-profit 501(c) organization, so any donations we receive from our shows ar...
