Changes for the Year

September 7, 2016

As you know, there will be some changes to our schedule this year in response to the Veteran District’s new rules. Our board meetings are going to be moved to the 1st Wednesday of the month, beginning in September 7th. We will also be changing the location of the board meetings to the Dennys on Shaw and Willow avenues. (710 W Shaw, Clovis, CA 93612). We have reservations there for at least 12 people from 4:30 – 7:30 PM for the months of September and October. Yes, we are going to eat during the meetings so feel free to do so. They don’t yet have their calendar available for 2017, so I couldn’t set up for next year, but this gives us time to see how this works anyway.

We will continue to meet in the Veteran’s room for our general meetings in September and October because that is the room they have reserved for us and they have different groups scheduled in the Freedom Room. They have allowed us extra time on September 14th to finish cleaning our stuff out of the closet in Veteran’s B so come prepared to take out stuff.

The Fall Art show has been moved to November and will be held at the Fresno Art Hub. The prospectus will be mailed out with the newsletter. I have notified the District that we will be releasing the dates in October that we had reserved for show.  Show dates : Receiving Nov 12 3:30—6:00 PM, Hang show on Monday, the 14th, show to open on Tuesday, the 15th, Reception/awards on Thursday Dec 1st, Take down on Thursday, Dec 8th

Old West Show: at present, plans are still to hold it at the Veteran’s District and set up in the lobby. Mandy is getting me the information needed for us to request the use of the lobby and I should be able to review and sign the contract for 2017 by October.

The yard sale is still on for Saturday, September 24th.  Please bring any donated items to the September General Meeting. We will be announcing a workday for final pricing of donated items at that meeting.

Changes

June 3, 2016

Is it really June already? The miniature show is coming up faster than you think so I hope all of you have started your painting for this year. This year there have been quite a few changes. The Fresno Art Hub will be hosting the show this year. Many thanks to our gracious hostess Diane Breuer. The awards will be given out during Art Hop Thursday on July 7th so please come and support all our fine artists.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Old West Show A Success

May 2, 2016

The Old West Show was a rousing success despite a few starting glitches. A big thank you goes out to all of you who turned out to help with the show. Special thanks also to our judge, Dennis Lewis who not only turned up for the reception, but also stayed and shared his knowledge with artists and guests.  A special insert has been included in this month’s issue showing the winners and a few shots of the show.

Speaking of shows, it’s time to get small. The miniature show will be held in Ju...

Old West & Rodeo Art Show

February 28, 2016

Do you know a young or beginning artist who needs encouragement? One of our strongest points as a group is how the Guild nurtures artists who are just beginning to know the joy of creating art. Don’t be shy about inviting that person to our meetings and shows! Also, we would appreciate it if our members would be willing to take copies of our newsletters and prospectuses to places where they know artists hang out, or whom you think might support art. Invite them to join you at a meeting.

Happy New Year in 2016

January 10, 2016

What does the future hold for Clovis Art Guild? This is a great art association with the potential to do a lot for the local art scene and for our members. One of the things that make the Guild special is its reputation for being a friendly, welcoming group. As the oldest art association in the Fresno/Clovis area the Guild can be a force for helpin...

Creating An Art Culture In Our Community

September 27, 2015

I hope you are all ready for our Fall show. I know we can make this a great show. Don’t forget also to think about helping out with the show. Signup sheets are available at the meeting. Dates to remember are on page 2.

It’ seems to be “begging time” again to ask our members to step up and serve as officers to the Guild. Any group is only as strong as its members are. While it is true that in most groups 10% of the members do 90% of the work, I just know that one of our members will...

NOTHING IN LIFE IS CERTAIN EXCEPT CHANGE

September 27, 2015

Well, this certainly has been a month with a lot of unexpected changes. We no longer have the Window Gallery at Sierra Vista Mall as the new management company is going to be taking the mall into a direction that won’t allow room for our art in their empty storefronts. I do hope that many of you will take advantage of the opportunity to share your work with the Sunnyside Library patrons. Why put art in a local library when you can’t post prices on it? Because this is a way to raise publ...

Taking Stock

August 2, 2015

Wow! The year is more than half over for the Guild. We only have three more meetings left. I feel that this has been a productive year for us. On the minus side, several of our members have had to retire to assisted living homes and now have difficulty getting rides to our meetings. On the plus side however, we have already had two fabulous shows, the Old West Show and the Miniature Works Show. We accomplished getting our EIN number and registering with the State of California and are on th...

Peer Association And Review Is Important

June 29, 2015

When I started to take my art seriously, I knew that peer group association was important for me to grow as an artist, but finding the right art group to join was a little frustrating.  Why is it so important to associate with other artists? Well, although you can create art in a vacuum, if your art is never evaluated by your peers, you may simply be stuck repeating the same type of art and art subjects at the same skill level forever. Peer groups challenge us to stretch our skills, reach f...

It's Later Than You Think!

May 28, 2015
The Old West Show looked wonderful this year (what littlie I got to see of it!). Thank all of you who helped put it on, and thank Jerome Grimmer for agreeing to be our judge this year.  We had two beautiful sculptures to show off, and we sold a painting right off the receiving floor! Congratulations to Bev Elrod who sold her 1st place-winning swans! The  Miniature show will be here sooner than you think so I hope you are all “thinking small” already, because receiving will be the last Sat...
